NUJ Ogun State Inaugurates Ogun East Independent Chapel, Inducts Dr. Gloria Shoda As Matron
The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ogun State chapter, has in a landmark event for journalism in Ogun State inaugurated the Ogun East Independent Chapel in Ijebu-Ode. The occasion also featured the induction of renowned public figure Dr. Gloria Laraba Shoda as the Matron of the newly established chapel.
During his address, the NUJ State Chairman, Comrade Akinwale Olanrewaju, charged members of the chapel to uphold the core values of journalism by prioritizing truth and integrity. “This marks a new chapter of commitment to professional ethics. We must always be guided by truth and remain impartial in our duty,” he emphasized.
A key highlight of the event was the inauguration of a screening and credentials committee chaired by Comrade Abiodun Lawal. The committee will oversee the constitutional election of executives to steer the chapel’s leadership.

Guest speaker Professor Obatunde Bright Adetola from Olabisi Onabanjo University underscored the significance of character in journalism, particularly in navigating entrepreneurial opportunities while maintaining ethical standards.
Dr. Gloria Laraba Shoda, in her acceptance speech, expressed gratitude for the honor, encouraging members to adhere to the values of honesty and transparency. “While lies may wear many disguises, truth walks boldly and unashamed,” she remarked.
The event attracted prominent personalities, including Hon. Toluwalope Opeyemi (APC Spokesperson, Ogun East), Engineer Wale Ogundele, Commander D.O. Adeniji, ACP Edwards, and several executive members of the Ogun State NUJ chapter, alongside security officials and chapel members.
This initiative is expected to enhance ethical journalism practices across Ogun East, fostering a culture of accountability and professionalism within the media landscape.
