Neglect Of Adatan–Car Wash Road: Ogun State Government’s Silence Is Loud – AAC Chairman Afolabi Adeshina Sounds Alarm

The African Action Congress (AAC) in Ogun State has added its voice to the outrage, accusing Governor Dapo Abiodun’s administration of gross negligence and “administrative failure” for ignoring the collapse of the crucial roadway.
In a strongly worded statement issued on Saturday, the AAC Ogun State Chairman, Alhaji Afolabi Adesina, described the condition of the road as “a national embarrassment and a betrayal of public trust,” warning that continued silence from the government could signal a disturbing trend of official indifference.
A growing chorus of frustration is echoing across Abeokuta as residents, commuters, and political stakeholders decry the worsening state of the Adatan–Car Wash Road—one of the busiest and most strategic routes in Ogun State’s capital.
“What should be a symbol of development in the state capital has become a death trap. The road is now riddled with gaping craters, failed culverts, and constant flooding. The government’s failure to act is not just negligence—it’s cruelty,” Adesina said.
The Adatan–Car Wash corridor is vital to daily transportation and commercial activity, linking key residential and business zones. However, residents say the road has become nearly impassable, with motorists forced to maneuver dangerously through pothole-ridden stretches and flooded segments, especially during rainy seasons.
Adesina accused the Abiodun-led administration of prioritizing photo opportunities and propaganda over real development, alleging that the government’s much-touted infrastructure drive is largely selective and cosmetic.
“Abeokuta should not be abandoned while projects are selectively commissioned in Iperu or Sagamu. Is the capital city no longer worthy of attention or dignity?” he queried.
He further questioned whether the neglect of Abeokuta was politically motivated, asking if residents were being “punished for voting in hope” during past elections.
The AAC called on civil society organizations, traditional rulers, student unions, and faith-based bodies to rise in solidarity and demand accountability from the state’s leadership.

The party’s demands include:
A public inspection and official statement from the Ministry of Works on the state of the road;
Immediate commencement of rehabilitation work with a publicly declared completion timeline;
Transparent engagement with the affected communities to restore public trust and communication.
“This is more than a road—it’s a lifeline for many residents. Its collapse is symbolic of a deeper governance failure. We cannot continue to normalize hardship under the guise of slow development,” Adesina stressed.
Commuters and business owners in the area have also expressed fears that the road’s condition could cripple local commerce, especially for small-scale transporters and traders who rely on daily mobility.
Some residents who spoke with Eaglesforesight reporters echoed AAC’s sentiment, noting that repeated complaints to the state’s Ministry of Works have yielded no results.
“The governor came here for inspection months ago. Cameras rolled, aides took notes, but till now, nothing has changed. We’re still suffering,” said Mrs. Janet Adebayo, a food vendor in Adatan.
As pressure mounts, it remains to be seen whether the Ogun State Government will respond with decisive action or continue what critics have labeled a “conspicuous silence.”
For now, the people of Abeokuta wait—watching the road, and watching their leaders, history will record silence jn the face of injustice as complicity, we choose not to be silent, he said.
