Medical Students’ Nightmare: Gunmen Abduct Over 20 Future Doctors And Dentists In Benue Ambush

In a chilling incident, a group of gunmen has kidnapped over 20 medical and dental students, as well as a House Officer, in Benue State, Nigeria.

The students, who were traveling together, were on their way to attend the annual convention of the Federation of Catholic Medical and Dental Students (FECAMDS) in Enugu.

The students, said to be from the University of Maiduguri and University of Jos, were traveling together when they were ambushed by gunmen around 5:30 p.m. in the Otukpo area of the state.

According to Sahara Reporters, the ambush occurred around 5:30 p.m. in the Otukpo area of the state, leaving the students and their families in a state of panic. The kidnapped students are from the University of Maiduguri and University of Jos, and were looking forward to a weekend of learning and networking with their peers.

“We received the report around 5:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. and are working tirelessly to ensure the safe release of the students,” said SP Catherine Anene, spokesperson for the Benue State Police Command, confirming the incident (Sahara Reporters).

The incident has sent shockwaves through the medical community, with many calling for increased security measures to protect students and healthcare workers. The abduction of these future doctors and dentists has raised concerns about the safety of students in Nigeria and the ability of the authorities to protect them.

As reported by Francis Ugwu, the police have launched an investigation into the abduction, but no further details have been provided. The families of the kidnapped students and the medical community await news of their safe release.
