Nigerian medical doctor, Dr Henry Nneji has detailed how operatives of the Nigeria Police Force, Delta State Command robbed him of N50,000 at gunpoint at Idumukpoko Junction.

Dr Nneji, who narrated his encounter with the said policemen, called on the Nigerian Inspector General of Police, Baba Usman to fish out the operatives and retrain them.

He decried the impunity with which the personnel robbed him at gunpoint, adding that they can only be better described as armed robbers in police uniform.

Dr. Nneji who posted his encounter with the policemen on his Twitter handle, @nneji_henry, wrote: “I’ve never had a cause to talk so bitterly against the Nigerian police but for today.

“I’m a medical doctor travelling from Edo state to Onitsha, I was stopped by this group of Nigerian police, got my baggage searched and they saw some medicines I’m currently on. Funnily enough, I was the one who innocently opened the drug pocket to them.

“Policemen immediately tagged my medicines as controlled drugs and requested I paid 100k to bail myself. I tried calling my consultants and our Resident Doctors Association but had my phone seized.

“We were in the middle of nowhere, they brought out handcuffs and brought the threat game on. The head of the ‘gang’ said nobody was coming to save me from here. These guys finally made away with my money 50,000.00 cash.”

He added, “Today, I developed extreme hatred for a country I call Mine because of the elements we have as security agents.

“Pls @PoliceNG, you have to locate these group of criminals and retrain them. Location is: Idumukpoko Junction Delta state.”

Reacting to the development, the spokesperson for the state police command, Bright Edafe, said the medical doctor should have insisted on being taken to a station. He, however, added that the command would try to find the officers.

Edafe said, “For a medical not to insist to be taken to a police station, and choose to part away with his hard earned money is alarming, as much as we do our best to locate them, we have to stop encouraging corruption by parting away with our hard earned money just like that.”

He also said the team had been identified and detained.

“The team has been identified, summoned and detained at the State Police headquarters. The complainant has reach (sic) out to me. Their actions is (sic) completely unacceptable, on completion of their orderly room trial, I will update us all. Thanks for drawing my attention to this,” he added.
