Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde on Wednesday announced the reconstruction of the 48-kilometer Ido-Eruwa Road.

The Ido-Eruwa Road should be completed in 12 months, according to Makinde.

He noted that his reign has linked Ibadan to Oke Ogun, Oke Ogun to Oyo, Oke Ogun to Ogbomoso, and Ibarapa to Oke Ogun.

He added that the flag was out to recognize the economic importance of the road to Ibarapaland and the state of Oyo in general.

Makinde said: “The economic importance of this 30-mile stretch of road cannot be overemphasized.

“If you look at the infrastructure blueprint of Oyo State, we have promised to take our people from poverty to prosperity, but we need to lay the foundation for that. And the main base is to connect all the zones that we have in the state.

“We have already started linking Ibadan to Oke-Ogun. We broke the backbone of the Oyo to Oke-Ogun zone project, which is still ongoing. We have also started pairing Ogbomoso with Iseyin. You know, Ibarapaland straddles the Oke-Ogun and Ibadan zones. The linkage between Oke-Ogun from Iganna to Igangan to Tapa, Aiyete, Idere to Igbo-Ora, the work is currently ongoing as they have reached up to 60 percent of that work.

“So the only missing link is the one we flag out today, which is the link to Ibarapa with Ibadan zones. Once this is done, it means that we have succeeded in connecting all entire zones in Oyo state and the foundations for economic prosperity have been laid.

“Well, this project is not new as several governments have pledged to carry out the 30-mile road project. From 2007 to 2011, they wanted to do it, but failed to achieve it.

Earlier, the Asiwaju of Eruwa Chief Olatunji Fadairo applauded the Governor for marking the Ido-Eruwa Road, noting that the Governor Eruwa is not strange and the people of the community would support his re-election so that he can complete the good works he started.
