The Lagos government unveiled a new work schedule for high school students in the state on Tuesday.
The new package incorporates the revised work carried out by the state government on the old syllabus and combines it with the national curriculum of the Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council (NERDC).
The state has also launched some specialized mobile learning devices and e-books on core subjects, including for secondary schools.
At the launch, the governor of the state, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, said the new work schedules are designed to revolutionize teaching and learning in Lagos schools and make the system more robust to meet to global best practices.
He says the feedback on the new schemes from stakeholders, especially the users – students and teachers – is that the revised scheme is an additional tool for better teaching and learning, powered by technology that has created active student participation.
Sanwo-Olu, who was represented at the event by the Secretary of the State Government, Ms. Folashade Jaji, said education is the third pillar of his government’s THEMES agenda and the commitment demonstrates the importance of the sector in helping the state transform into a smart city more noticeable.
He explained that the new arrangements that will be used by both public and private schools in the state are designed to meet the demands of modern education without deviating from the NERDC benchmark.
“And we have been committed to this transformation from the beginning because of the knowledge of recent advances worldwide that learning must be participatory and engaging for today’s students to appreciate its futuristic impact.
“So as a responsible government, we have invested in digital devices and e-books in line with our agenda to seamlessly merge education and technology and upgrade our education system to meet the global standard.
“And we will continue to invest in the sector by improving our students’ ability to use technology and ensuring our school staff are equally ICT compliant.”
Sanwo-Olu said he is very optimistic that the future of Lagos schools and their students is assured with the new arrangements.
In their separate remarks earlier, the State Commissioner for Education Ms. Folasade Adefisayo and her Science and Technology counterpart Mr. Hakeem Fahm said that the revised schedules combined with technology would certainly help the students to study and research more effectively in schools and colleges. in schools. home when they are alone.
In particular, Ms. Folasade explained that the new study framework and materials would make students now and in the future more knowledgeable and skilled, great critical thinkers and problem solvers.
