Lafarge/RIDSCo Hosts 2023/2024 Sagamu Community Day, Doles Out Impactful Projects To The Community
As part of significant boost to education, human capital development, economic empowerment and Infrastructural enhancement in Sagamu Local Government, no fewer than 100 students have been awarded bursary awards by Lafarge Holcim Plc in collaboration with Royal Initiative for Development of Sagamu Community (RIDSCo). The landmark initiative also provided skills acquisition training to numerous youths in several trades including snail farming and CISCO, to further enhance their abilities to contribute to the community’s development.
The event, held in Sagamu at Akarigbo palace, witnessed a convergence of dignitaries, including traditional rulers ably led by HRM Alayeluwa Oba Babatunde Adewale Ajayi, cfr, LLM, FCA, FBR, Akarigbo and Paramount Ruler of Remo Land, community leaders including the two past chairmen of RIDSCo, Asiwaju (Dr) S.K. Onafowokan and Olootu Omoba M.O. Oyedele, clubs, associations, market leaders, security agencies, and representatives of Lafarge Holcim Plc.
The beneficiaries and their parents expressed gratitude for the life-changing opportunity, describing it as a step toward achieving their academic and personal dreams.
The Akarigbo of Remoland, Oba Adewale Babatunde Ajayi, CFR, expressed his profound appreciation to Lafarge Holcim Plc for its unwavering support to the Sagamu community. He urged the company to sustain its corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives, which has have positive impacts on education, health, infrastructures and economic growth in the community.
Addressing the beneficiaries, Oba Adewale Babatunde Ajayi charged them to justify the faith placed in them by their benefactors. “You have been given a golden opportunity. Do not disappoint those who invested in your future. Make our community proud and be shining ambassadors of Sagamu,” he admonished.
RIDSCo Chairman, Mr. Sammy Ogunjimi, commended the academic achievements of the bursary recipients, encouraging them to remain steadfast in their pursuit of excellence. “Education is the best legacy. This bursary awards is a testament to our belief in your potentials. Stay focused and continue to make us proud,” he said.
He also addressed the beneficiaries of the snail farming and CISCO IT programs, urging them to capitalize on their new skills for economic empowerment. “Use what you’ve learned to create value for yourself and others. This is how you can contribute to the development of Sagamu Local Government,” he added.
Also, the RIDSCo Chairman thanked Lafarge Africa Plc for her excellent performances in the discharge of Corporate Social Responsibility to the community. On the request made by the CEO of Lafarge for just one or two Mega projects instead of smaller impactful ones, the Chairman said the community is not averse to it, but it should be done separately noting that Sagamu is an assemblage of over 50 smaller communities waiting for projects from Lafarge. Equally, he appealed for a greater increase in the allocation to the community to cushion the effects of high inflation in the country.

The Country Communications Director who represented Lafarge CEO, Mrs Viola Graham Douglas assured the community that Lafarge will continue to partner RIDSCo for effective and efficient distribution of CSR Projects to the Community. She said she will take the messages from the community back to the CEO for consideration.
In his vote of thanks, Sir Teju Ogunjimi expressed deep gratitude to the Akarigbo, RIDSCo executives, dignitaries, and Lafarge representatives for their collective efforts in making the program a success. He noted that the presence of such esteemed individuals underscored the importance of the initiative to the community.

The program reaffirmed Lafarge Africa’s commitment to fostering sustainable development in its host communities. As the beneficiaries step into their roles as students and skilled individuals, the expectation remains that they will not only achieve personal success but also contribute positively to the growth and prosperity of Sagamu.
This collaborative effort between Lafarge and RIDSCo is a beacon of hope for the youth in Sagamu, setting a standard for how corporate and community partnerships can drive meaningful change.

4. Supply of Laboratory equipment to Sabo-Agura Health Centre
5. Construction of concrete Culvert at Imeko Junction, Ikenne Road.
