Mr Debo Adebayo, a comedian and activist better known as ‘Mr. Macaroni’ has rejected the invitation of Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the Governor of Lagos State, to a peace walk to heal the wounds of the October 20, 2020 killing of young protesters at Lekki Tollgate.

Speaking at a press conference in Lagos on Tuesday, Sanwo-Olu had called for a ‘walk for peace’ with Folarin Falana (Falz), Debo Adebayo (Mr. Macaroni), Dele Farotimi, Temitope Majekodunmi, Segun Awosanya (Segalink), Adetoun (Just Detoun), Seun Kuti, CP Hakeem Odumosu and CSP Yinka Egbeyemi.

“To become a champion of prejudice is to own a fleeting and false victory. It is a victory of rancor over reason, of vengeance over justice, of anger over compassion,” he had said.

But responding hours later, Mr. Macaroni tweeted: “I humbly decline the invitation of Mr Governor. The Government themselves set up a panel. The panel has made recommendations. I believe that genuine peacemaking will begin by first implementing the recommendations of the panel. Then we can begin to trust the government.

“Finally, I’m not at war with anyone. Not with the Government, police or politicians. All we are asking is that our leaders place value on our lives as citizens and lead us with love, fairness, truth and justice, to enable all Nigerians live a better life in peace and unity.”
