“JUDICIAL RASCALITY BRAZING CORRUPTION AND ITS EFFECT ON THE ELECTORAL SYSTEM AND OF COURSE DEMOCRACY IN NIGERIA”.
Dear audience, this is not all about Dist Sen Stephen Odey or Rt. Hon. Jarigbe Agom. This is simply about the very fabric of our existence which is law and order. So read with understanding and come at me with decorum, bearing in mind that I am also not a gentleman.
Now here we go.
I’m yet to come to terms with the outcome of the CRN Senatorial by-election Appeal Court verdict of Friday 30th July, 2021 sitting in Calabar.
It is surprising that the judiciary has by this act exposed itself of uncleanness in the discharge of it duty while undermining the chaos it would hatch in the country in the nearest future if not corrected immediately.
Even though I am not a lawyer, yet I understand this simple fact that until an individual goes through all processes of electioneering, such a person cannot lay claims to a mandate purported to be given him or her.
A man who walked out of a primary election contest, sensing his imminent defeat, ran to a crony’s hotel with a few other cronies and declared himself a winner, and afterwards proceeded to acquire a certificate of return should have been shown the way to abhor such brazing corruption rather than applauded and unscrupulously rewarded.
This act by the Appeal Court has simply justified the President, His Excellency, President Muhammadu BUHARI’S action of October, 2016 for invading the homes of some judges accused of corruption which many Nigerians including myself condemned.
It simply means that elections will only be done by the purchase of nomination forms, convergence of a few individuals anywhere convenient, declare oneself winner, acquire a certificate of return from the electoral umpire then finally get a favourable court verdict by whichever means traded.
Nigeria is heading to total anarchy if this is not corrected immediately and the glaring winner of the CRN Senatorial by-election 2020, in the person of distinguished Senator Stephen Odey Adi is encouraged to continue with the good work that he has been doing, to serve as deterrent.
