Janet Olaolu Leads Book Drive, Empowers Makun High School Students On Leadership And Teenage Pregnancy Awareness

In a drive to promote literacy and responsible decision-making among young students, education advocate Janet Olaolu and her team organized a book drive and sensitization program at Makun High School, Sagamu, on Friday, February 14. The initiative aimed at encouraging students to embrace reading as a tool for personal growth while also educating them on the dangers of teenage pregnancy and its long-term consequences.
Addressing the enthusiastic students, Janet emphasized the transformative power of reading, stressing that “readers are leaders” and that a strong reading culture is fundamental to personal success and leadership development. She explained that young people who invest in books expand their knowledge, critical thinking skills, and decision-making abilities—qualities essential for future leadership roles. She encouraged the students to see education as a gateway to unlocking their potential and making informed life choices.
Beyond literacy promotion, the program also tackled the growing concerns of teenage pregnancy, which remains a pressing issue affecting young girls in many communities. Janet sensitized the students on the risks and socio-economic impacts associated with early pregnancies, including disrupted education, limited career opportunities, and health complications. She urged them to prioritize their studies, make responsible decisions, and seek guidance when faced with peer pressure or societal challenges.
To further reinforce the message of empowerment, Janet and her team donated an array of leadership books and educational materials to the school. These books were carefully selected to inspire students, equip them with knowledge, and cultivate a mindset of responsibility and ambition. The team also provided additional gift items, showing their commitment to supporting students beyond the classroom. Teachers and school administrators expressed deep appreciation for the gesture, acknowledging its role in fostering a culture of reading and awareness among the students.
