Iperu Stands Still For The Funeral Of Hon. Solomon Odubona

On August 22, 2024, Iperu, Ogun State, Nigeria, witnessed a heartfelt burial ceremony honoring the life of Hon Chief Solomon Olusanya Odubona. The event, marked by deep respect and solemnity, brought together family, friends, and community members to pay their final respects to a beloved figure.

The day began with the body being moved from the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital morgue at 9:00 a.m. The casket was accompanied by family and friends to the House of Assembly in Abeokuta, where a brief tribute was held in his honor, showcasing the esteem in which he was held by fellow honorary members.

A Tribute to an Exemplary Leader Hon Odubona Solomon Olusanya , the former Minority Leader of the Assembly from1999 to 2003 from Ikenne State Constituency.

The 4th Assembly speaker of Ogun State, Rt. Hon. Oladipo describes Hon. Odubona as A distinguished public servant and a respected leader, Hon. Odubonaā€™s commitment to the betterment of Ogun State will forever be remembered.

Rt. Hon. Oladipo also State that Hon. Sanya Odubona was known for his unwavering dedication to the principles of democracy and good governance. He was a champion for the rights of the underprivileged as minority leader during their session, and his leadership was characterized by integrity, compassion, and an unyielding commitment to his constituents. His efforts to advance the interests of the people of Ogun State earned him profound respect across party lines.

The Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Hon. Daisi Elemide, expressed condolences on behalf of the Assembly, stating, ā€œHon. Sanya Odubona was a guiding light not only to his peers but to countless citizens whose lives he touched. His dedication to service and unwavering integrity set a standard that we all aspire to emulate. As we gather to pay tribute to his memory, we also reaffirm our commitment to uphold the values he embodied.ā€

The lying in state which feature a series of memorial events, including messages from prominent leaders and former Honourable colleagues such as Hon. S. O Dada, Hon. Surv. S. O Adeaga.

Also in attendance are former speakers of 5th, 7th and 8th of the State Assembly in person of Rt. Hon. (Mrs.) Titi Oseni, and Rt. Hon. Suraj Adekunbi and former deputy speaker Hon. Tola Banjo and several members of the present 10th Assembly led by Rt. Daisi Elemide.

Following this, the body was taken to is family residence in Iperu at noon, paraded through nearby streets, allowing the community to join in the mourning.

On the 23rd day of August 2024

A church service at St. James Anglican Church commenced at 10:00 a.m., leading into a funeral procession at 10:00 a.m. The casket, carried by pallbearers, was followed by family, friends, and a brass band playing solemn tunes, as community members lined the route to pay their respects. The burial took place at 12:00 p.m. at his family residence, with heartfelt eulogies delivered by family, friends, and local leaders, followed by a final blessing as the casket was lowered into the grave.

After the burial, a reception was held at Christ Apostolic Grammar School Iperu, where guests enjoyed food and refreshments while continuing to share tributes and condolences. Over 300 attendees gathered to celebrate the life of Hon Chief Solomon Olusanya Odubona, a distinguished philanthropist and community leader, whose legacy will be cherished by all who knew him. The family expressed their gratitude for the overwhelming support and love shown during this difficult time.
