Inside Victor Osimhen’s Transfer Twist: Secret Galatasaray Deal Amid Silence From Europe’s Elite

Victor Osimhen’s transfer saga is taking yet another dramatic turn, with the Nigerian striker now on the verge of completing a permanent move from Napoli to Turkish giants, Galatasaray, in a deal that many observers believe might be more strategic than it appears on the surface.

According to inside sources, the Turkish Super Lig champions are set to activate Osimhen’s €75 million release clause – to be paid in two instalments: €40 million upfront and €35 million within 12 months. Barring a last-minute hitch, the 26-year-old will be making a return to Istanbul, where he spent last season on loan.

But beneath the surface lies a more complex tale.

Galatasaray: A Backdoor Escape Route from Napoli?

Osimhen’s return to Turkey wasn’t always the plan. In fact, Galatasaray was never his first-choice destination, either last summer or now. Sources close to the player revealed that Osimhen came within touching distance of joining Chelsea last year, only for personal terms to derail the deal.

Instead, Galatasaray became a temporary landing spot—a bridge to something bigger.

And that bridge may still be in play.

According to seasoned Nigerian sports analyst Wale Agbede, Galatasaray might now be serving a new purpose: to free Osimhen from Napoli’s grip, with a “gentleman’s agreement” possibly in place to facilitate a bigger move next summer.

“There’s a suggestion that Galatasaray signing him is a way to break off from Napoli,” Agbede told our correspondent.

“He has a better relationship with the Galatasaray board, and they could act as intermediaries to get him to a top European club next year.”

Snubbed by Europe’s Elite?

But why haven’t Europe’s top clubs come calling?

Despite his goal-scoring credentials, Osimhen has not received any serious offers from the likes of Arsenal, Manchester United, PSG, or Chelsea this summer. Even Liverpool, who were previously linked, appear to have turned to Hugo Ekitike or Alexander Isak.

Agbede finds the situation baffling.

“It’s peculiar. Nobody can pinpoint why he hasn’t gotten a move to a big club,” he said.

“He’s been mentioned in the same breath with clubs like Manchester United, Chelsea, even Liverpool. But nothing concrete ever materialized.”

Some observers believe Osimhen’s fractured relationship with Napoli, marked by reported fallouts and off-field tensions, may have discouraged potential suitors. Others speculate about unseen politics or management issues, though no verified information has surfaced.

The Age and Branding Dilemma

Another theory centers on Osimhen’s age—at 26, he is approaching what may be the final peak contract of his career. In today’s football market, clubs may be reluctant to commit large transfer fees to players nearing 30.

“Clubs are calculating,” Agbede notes.

“He’s not the biggest commercial brand either. So financially, he needs to think carefully about long-term security.”

This brings into focus the massive interest Osimhen has received from Saudi Arabia, particularly from reigning champions Al-Hilal, who have reportedly made four mouth-watering offers—all rejected by the striker.

Should He Have Taken the Saudi Route?

For many in the industry, turning down Saudi millions may be a bold—if risky—choice. Players like Odion Ighalo have publicly advised Osimhen to take the money, citing short career spans and long-term financial stability.

Agbede agrees, albeit with a caveat.

“Financially, Saudi Arabia is the most prudent option,” he said.

“But it seems Osimhen still wants to play in Europe. If no big club comes for him soon, I’d advise him to strongly consider Saudi.”

What Next? A Quiet Plot for a Bigger Stage?

As it stands, Galatasaray appears to be the pragmatic next step. Whether this is a final destination or simply a stepping stone out of a turbulent Napoli chapter remains to be seen.

But one thing is certain: Victor Osimhen’s career is at a pivotal crossroads. And behind the quiet negotiations and backdoor dealings, the next 12 months could define not just his football legacy, but his financial future.
