Insecurity Affecting Southeast Development — Group
One group, the South-East Coalition for Sustainable Development, has lamented that the activities of criminal elements in the region are affecting the socio-economic development of the region.
This was because the group urged the people of the region to work with Nigeria’s armed forces to curb the region’s violence and wanton killings.
A statement on Monday by the group’s chairman, Onu Ikenna, and its secretary, Uchechi Mgbidi, called on the military to ensure that elections in the region are held in a safe environment.
The statement read in part: “We implore our people to support the military as development steps related to the Igbos are being eroded by the activities of a few.
“We cannot continue with this violence and wanton killings that are starting to make us look like cannibals.
“We also welcome the CDS’s pledge that the military and other security services will not tolerate any threat to the 2023 general election. Now is the time for our people to speak about who should run their affairs. That right should not be denied them.
“However, we are urging residents to support the army’s non-kinetic measures to ensure that Nigerians get peace in the region.”
