INEC performs mock accreditation with BVAS in Delta
In an effort to establish the viability of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System and as part of preparations for the 2023 general election, the Independent National Electoral Commission will conduct a mock accreditation exercise in Delta State.
The acting department head, voter education and publicity INEC in the state, Bukola Ojeme, made the announcement Tuesday in a statement in Asaba, the state capital.
He said the exercise was scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 4, in 12 selected polling places across three senatorial districts and six local government areas in the state.
Ojeme said: “The Independent National Election Commission, Delta State, is slated to conduct mock accreditation with the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System to advance the technical evaluation of the device as part of preparations for the 2023 general election.
“Recall that the Commission successfully conducted the initial technical evaluation of approximately 6,000 pieces of BVAS delivered to the Commission in Delta State to determine the viability of both hardware and software election materials.
“The fake accreditation exercise, which will take place in 12 selected polling stations, in three senatorial districts and six LGAs, is therefore one step further in establishing its functionality on the field.
“The exercise starts at 8am and closes at 2pm and only registered voters, with the permanent voter cards (PVCs) in the respective polling stations, are eligible to participate in the mock accreditation.
“The Commission is calling on Deltans, especially participating registered voters, to abide by the instructions of officials assigned to the exercise for a successful outcome.”
The local governments selected according to Ojeme include Okpe, Ughelli North, Ika North East, Oshimili North, Isoko North and Warri South.
