“I’m Willing To Return To The House of Reps To Complete Abandoned Projects” — Hon. Adesegun Adekoya (Attacker)

The immediate past member of the House of Representatives for Ogun Waterside, Ijebu East, and Ijebu North Federal Constituency, Hon. Abdel-Majid Adesegun Adekoya, popularly known as Attacker, has expressed a strong interest in returning to the National Assembly, citing a desire to complete several uncompleted constituency projects initiated during his tenure.

In a recent chat with journalists at his Ago-Iwoye residence, Hon. Adekoya said his decision to re-contest for the green chamber would depend on whether the political environment is favorable.

“If the environment is conducive, I would like to go back to the green chamber so I can complete the projects I started — many of which have now been abandoned. These include the hospital at Ako, Ago-Iwoye Stadium, Orimolusi Palace, Buruji Kashamu Skill Acquisition Centre, and the Imusin Ajina Shopping Complex, among others. If only to complete these initiatives, I am willing to contest again,” he stated.

Reflecting on the internal politics of his party, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State, Adekoya noted significant progress in unity and stability compared to previous years.

“The crisis in Ogun State PDP has subsided, especially with the defection of aggrieved members to other parties. In the past, huge sums were wasted on litigations. I personally spent N160 million on legal battles, while the APC spent less than N1 million. Imagine if that money had been used to mobilize voters across the wards in my constituency — victory would have been assured,” he said.

Hon. Adekoya, who served as Commissioner for eight years in Ogun State before moving to the National Assembly, also recounted his political rise from grassroots politics in Lagos, where he was an elected councillor, a supervisory councillor, Vice Chairman, and later Chairman of Kosofe Local Government.

“My political growth has never been accidental. I rose through the ranks, starting as a councillor in Shomolu Local Government, later becoming the LG chairman in Kosofe before moving back to Ogun State,” he recalled.

Addressing speculations about possibly defecting to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), the former lawmaker dismissed such thoughts.

“It has never crossed my mind to move to the APC. That party has not impressed the masses. There is hunger in the land, our roads are bad, and schools are grossly understaffed. Things have deteriorated so badly that prominent individuals now lobby education faculties in OOU and TASUED just to get student teachers for primary schools,” he lamented.

Speaking on the 2027 general elections, Hon. Adekoya predicted a shift from party-based voting to candidate-based decision-making, especially in the presidential race. He also advised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to distribute federal appointments more equitably across the Southwest.

“Out of every ten appointments, eight are going to Lagos. The President should remember that Lagos is not the only Yoruba state,” he warned.

During his tenure in the House of Representatives, Hon. Adekoya was widely credited with initiating and executing a number of constituency development projects, including the Imusin Shopping Complex, Imobi Town Hall, Ilodo Town Hall, Ogbe Bridge in Ijebu-Ife, school renovations, laptop distributions, road construction, solar streetlights, and jetties in Iwopin and Ooni.

“I believe I can do more for my people because I have built strong connections over the years. The National Assembly operates largely on caucus relationships — if you’re not connected, you achieve little,” he concluded.

With the political atmosphere gradually warming up ahead of 2027, the statement by Hon. Adekoya signals a potential comeback that could reshape the dynamics of Ogun East’s political landscape.
