Ijebu, Remo Youths (IREYPO) Reaffirm Support For New State Creation, Call For Unity

…“We Stand for Oneness,” Says IREYPO Convener, Akogun Jamiu Alabi Olododo
The Ijebu-Remo Youth Progressive Organisation (IREYPO) has once again applauded the unwavering commitment of Ijebu and Remo royal fathers in their persistent advocacy for the creation of a new state from the present Ogun State.
In a statement, the youth body reaffirmed that every necessary step must be taken to realize this long-standing aspiration. They urged all leaders within the Ijebu-Remo zone to remain steadfast and avoid any actions that could create division and weaken the movement.
Speaking during a media engagement on Wednesday at Eskay Hotel, Sagamu, the convener of IREYPO, Akogun Jamiu Alabi Olododo, emphasized that the group remains committed to unity and stands fully in support of the aspirations of Ijebu and Remo monarchs and leaders in championing the creation of Ijebu-Remo State.
Olododo noted that IREYPO is dedicated to strengthening the bond between sons and daughters of both regions, ensuring a solid foundation for future generations in the ongoing push for statehood.
“Over the years, several attempts have been made to achieve this goal, and as this marks the fourth major effort, one crucial lesson stands out—unity is key. The success of this movement depends on our ability to speak with one voice, setting aside personal and sectional interests,” he stated.

He also stressed the need for broader participation across the 33 towns in Remoland and 66 towns in Ijebuland, noting that while IREYPO represents both Ijebu and Remo indigenes, the focus should not just be on numbers but on selecting true leaders who genuinely represent the interests of their respective communities.
Addressing concerns about collaboration with other youth groups, he clarified that there is no rivalry between IREYPO and the Sagamu Youth Forum (Sagamuites), as each group is focused on the progress of its respective domain.
“There have been inquiries about integrating other youth platforms, especially the Sagamu Youth Forum, to prevent any perceived division. However, we emphasize that there is no conflict. Each group is advocating for the growth and progress of its region.
“While the Sagamu Youth Forum primarily champions the interests of Remo youths, IREYPO remains dedicated to fostering unity between Ijebu and Remo, ensuring that our collective voice remains strong in this struggle,” he added.
Olododo also commended the recent press conference held by the Sagamu Youth Forum, describing it as a positive step that aligns with the shared vision for development. He emphasized that every stakeholder is contributing in their own capacity, and these collective efforts will further drive the movement forward.
Similarly, Dr. Oluseyi Olubanjo, who also spoke at the event, reiterated that IREYPO’s mission is to build bridges, promote unity, and ensure that the aspirations of both Ijebu and Remo people are actualized.
“The participation of young people in this movement is critical, as it secures the interests of future generations and demonstrates the active role youths must play in shaping the destiny of our people,” he remarked.
The call for unity among Ijebu and Remo leaders continues to grow stronger as youth organizations step forward to amplify the movement. Many stakeholders believe that with sustained efforts and strategic collaborations, the dream of Ijebu-Remo State may soon become a reality.
