IG Orders Arrest, Prosecution Of Naira Notes Extortionists
The Inspector General of Police Usman Baba has ordered the arrest and subsequent prosecution of all individuals involved in the sale or misuse of Naira notes issued by the Central Bank of Nigeria.
He instructed the Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of the Investigation Department and the Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of the Intelligence Bureau to alert officers and men of the Department and Bureau across the country to comply with the directives. to be carried out.
The police chief noted that this was in furtherance of the federal government’s policies and efforts to enforce the provisions of the 2007 CBN Act and make Nigerian currency worthy.
The Force spokesman, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, revealed this in a statement obtained by our correspondent on Friday.
The IGP similarly directed all supervisory AIGs and Commissioners of Police responsible for police commands and formations to carry out full enforcement of the provisions of Sections 20 and 21 of the CBN Act of 2007 which, among other things, prohibits selling, selling or otherwise trafficking.
“And also spraying, dancing or matching on the Naira notes, counterfeiting or counterfeiting of notes, refusal to accept the Naira as a means of payment, tampering with the coin or note issued by the CBN,” the statement said.
Adejobi further noted that the IGP reiterated the NPF’s mandate to enforce all laws and regulations without prejudice to the enabling laws of other security agencies.
