A senior Nigerian lawyer, Ebu-Olu Adegboruwa, has been shouting about an alleged serious threat to his life.

The legal star, who explained that he has no political ties, called on Nigerians to hold the government and security services accountable should anything happen to him.

In a statement he personally signed and obtained by Tribune Online on Saturday, Adegboruwa said he has recently noticed and warned of attempts on his life, linking the alleged threat to his conviction and pleas for good governance, the rule of law and accountability.

He said: “Since I do not yet have the financial power to make philanthropic commitments to grow my beliefs, I am using my professional experience, knowledge and services to campaign for a better society, where justice and peace will reign .

“This should not warrant any threat to my life, either from politicians or the government. The power is from God. No human life should be worth anyone’s political ambition.”

Further, he noted that the country is seeking good leadership that will improve economic conditions and good governance, adding that such desire should not threaten the life of any lawyer.

“All that the people of Nigeria are looking for is good leadership, a better life through efficient management of our resources, security of life and property, sustainable infrastructure that will provide improved economic conditions and good governance.

“This should not threaten the ambition of any politician, or even the life of any lawyer. While my views and actions may seem to oppose or support certain political tendencies depending on the division, I am not loyal to any political party,” he said.

Adegboruwa added that anyone who deemed Nigeria fit for their vote in free, fair and credible elections would also be its leader, pledging however to “continue the revolutionary struggle for which I am trained and known, despite the threats. My life is in the hands of God.
