GAPOSA Students Demand Aluta Bus From Governor Dapo Abiodun, Cite Fairness And Equity

Students of Gateway ICT Polytechnic, Saapade (GAPOSA) have made an urgent appeal to the Executive Governor of Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun, CON, requesting the provision of an Aluta Bus and a pilot to enhance student mobility, governance, and welfare.
The request, contained in a joint communiqué addressed through key state officials, including:
Rt. Hon. Oludaisi Olusegun Elemide, Speaker, Ogun State House of Assembly
His Royal Majesty, Oba Babatunde Adewale Ajayi, Akarigbo and Paramount Ruler of Remoland
Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, Commissioner for Education, Science, and Technology
Mrs. Ronke Soyombo, Senior Special Assistant on Education
The students argue that GAPOSA remains the only major tertiary institution in Ogun State without a government-provided Aluta Bus, despite similar provisions made to other institutions across the state.
Unfulfilled Promise of Equity: GAPOSA Left Behind
The communiqué highlights the imbalance in educational support under the RIYE (Remo, Ijebu, Yewa, Egba) framework, which was designed to ensure fairness and equal development across Ogun State’s regions.
Governor Dapo Abiodun’s administration has commendably provided Aluta Buses to:
Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), Ijebu
Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY), Egba
Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro, Yewa
However, Remo Land, where GAPOSA is located, remains excluded, raising concerns about fairness and balanced development.
Why GAPOSA Needs an Aluta Bus Urgently
The students outlined five compelling reasons for the immediate provision of an Aluta Bus:
1. Ensuring Fairness and Equity
Every other region has received an Aluta Bus, but GAPOSA, the only government-owned tertiary institution in Remo Land, has been sidelined. The students insist that equity demands that GAPOSA be included in the initiative.
2. Strengthening Student Union Governance and Mobility
With over 10,000 students, GAPOSA’s Student Union Government (SUG) struggles with mobility due to the lack of a functional bus. This limits their ability to:
Represent students at government meetings and policy discussions
Attend state and national student congresses
Participate in security briefings, academic summits, and government-student dialogue sessions
A functional Aluta Bus would significantly enhance governance efficiency, student welfare advocacy, and administrative engagement.
3. Increasing Government Presence in Remo Land
GAPOSA serves as a hub for youth development and academic excellence in Remo Land. However, the absence of an Aluta Bus reflects a lack of governmental inclusion in the region.

Providing this essential support will:
Boost student morale
Reinforce the state government’s commitment to higher institutions across all Ogun regions
Strengthen Remo Land’s inclusion in government initiatives
4. Enhancing Student Welfare and Emergency Response
Beyond governance, an Aluta Bus will serve vital welfare purposes, including:
Providing safe transportation for student engagements, ensuring security and accessibility.
Supporting emergency medical responses for students during health-related crises
Facilitating student participation in educational programs, leadership training, and skills acquisition within and outside Ogun State
5. A Show of Support from a Remonian Governor to Remo Land
Governor Dapo Abiodun, a proud son of Remo Land, has consistently supported youth development and education. However, GAPOSA students believe their institution deserves the same level of attention as others in the state.
“The Governor’s residence is just 15km from GAPOSA, and we trust that he will not overlook his students in Remo Land,” the communiqué stated.
Providing an Aluta Bus to GAPOSA will cement Governor Abiodun’s legacy as a student-friendly leader committed to fairness, equity, and balanced development.
Student Leaders Call for Immediate Action
The communiqué was signed by prominent student representatives, including:
Comrade Megbowon Olusola Ezekiel – Secretary General, Association of Southern Nigerian Students (ASONIS)
Comrade Olatunji Idowu Alexander – Office of the Special Duties, Zone D
Comrade Amosun David Ebunoluwa – Vice President (Special Duties), National Association of Polytechnic Students (NAPS)
Comrade Balogun Taofik – President, Student Union Government (SUG), GAPOSA
Comrade Oyebola Oluwagbenga Michael – Acting Chairman, GAPOSA Students Stakeholders Forum (GSSF)
Comrade Ajewole Kazeem Ahmed – Emeritus NAPS VP Special Duties
Comrade (Ambassador) Popoola Abdullahi Olakunle – PRO, Remo Students Association
The students called on the Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, the Commissioner for Education, and the Akarigbo of Remoland to push this request forward.
“This is not just a request but a necessity for ensuring that GAPOSA students enjoy the same benefits as their counterparts in other Ogun State tertiary institutions,” they asserted.
Will Governor Abiodun Answer GAPOSA’s Call?
As the demand for the GAPOSA Aluta Bus gains momentum, students and stakeholders await the Governor’s response. Will Governor Dapo Abiodun fulfill this long-overdue request and demonstrate his commitment to fairness, equity, and student welfare?
All eyes are now on the Ogun State Government.
