Fuel/Naira Scarcity: Ogun To Distribute 400,000 Food Items To Vulnerable Residents

As part of efforts to cushion the effects of fuel and Naira scarcity, the Ogun State Government ably led by Prince Dapo Abiodun, has concluded the arrangements to distribute 400,000 food items to vulnerable residents of the state.

The state governor, Dapo Abiodun, made the news during a press conference on Friday at the Presidential Lodge. He said the 400,000 food items would be the first phase of the palliatives to be delivered through the recently recruited Social Investment Officers, starting on Saturday.

The government of Ogun State, in its readiness has announced publicly to start distributing food items to the state’s most needy inhabitants, positioned to buffer the effects of fuel and naira scarcity in the state.

He expressed his conviction that the social intervention program would offer the state’s citizens the needed support, particularly in light of the cash crunch and petrol scarcity.

The Ogun State Government has outlined plans to mitigate the effects of fuel and naira shortages.

Abiodun also called to security agencies to address the situation with greater professionalism and deeper maturity while also expressing regret to the state’s citizens for the unintended difficulties and inconveniences the currency swap program has brought them.

“We hope this social intervention provides some succour to our people. Again, we apologize for the inadvertent hardship and inconveniences this policy has caused all of us.

“Let me also appeal to our security agencies to handle this situation with more professionalism and deeper maturity.

“Indeed, these are trying times for all of us. I appeal to all of us to exercise patience because the much desired relief is around the corner. Let us give peace a chance,” he said.

In addition to reiterating the fact that violence never solves problems, Governor Abiodun urged the state’s citizens to work with the administration to find solutions. He added that targeting banks or any other public facility would not benefit anyone.

He cautioned the state’s citizens against letting dishonest characters profit from the difficult times while also pointing out that the moment was just a phase that will end.

He said his administration was working hard to address the naira supply issue and that it was also working around the clock to ensure that there was an adequate supply of petroleum products at designated filling stations throughout the state. He predicted that the outcome would be clear in the coming days.

The governor made an appeal to royal fathers, civil society organizations, youth organizations, students’ bodies, the organized labor, and religious leaders to help educate the populace on the need to embrace peace and dialogue in order to resolve the issues on the ground.

While apologizing to the people of the state for the hardship and inconveniences the naira swap policy had caused them, Governor Abiodun appealed to security agencies to handle the situation with more professionalism and deeper maturity.

He explained  that his administration was working hard to tackle scarcity of naira, adding that his government was also taking steps to facilitate the adequate supply of petroleum products to designated filling stations across the state.

He also issued a warning that his administration would treat any wrongdoing banks and bankers as economic saboteurs and would not hesitate to use the big stick on them.
