From The Street To Star Student: Street Boy Wins Laptop In An Edulethics Competition —Prince Lahbash
In October 2020, I met a boy somewhere on the street in Sagamu. He was fighting with some other street boys.
I engaged him in a conversation and I found out he was really an intelligent and smart boy indeed. I wondered why he was not in school.
When I asked him why he wasn’t in school, He told me he wasn’t interested in school and education, perhaps he should have his reasons for saying so.
He mentioned that; “he feels he can do better without school. He was already learning a craft then.”
I spoke to him and encourage him to go back to school, I kept meeting with him and also got his parents contact too. I met with his parents and spoke to them too.
He decided to go back to school and enrolled in a school. Without the financial strengths to afford catering for all his education bills, I have to raised funds on his behalf and of which my influence and interference met him some kind being that accept to give him scholarship.
Due to his street and carefree attitude, He was seen as a rebel at school. He wasn’t ready to be under authority. He was used to having his way always.
The boy found it hard to catch up with his classmates in school. He was called a dullard and a tout in school because of the way he acts in class.
At some point, he told me that he believed he was a dullard and he wanted to quit school. I kept encouraging him from time to time and he started settling in well in school.
He told me he was going to try one last time and give it his best. He started working more on himself.
I couldn’t check upon him for a while because I was busy chasing life and putting some things together for myself, family and other relatives that solemnly depends on me.
Last night, I received a call from him and he was so happy. He won a laptop for himself at an eduletics competition.

This is so great. During the call, he said this: “Thank you sir for believing in me, I didn’t know I could do this.” He told me he finally believes he belongs in school. I am so glad for his success.
For a young man, he felt he was in the wrong place in school. They felt he was too old to deal with education and didn’t want to be in school. It’s a great achievement.

Now in my little ways, I’m fast becoming a philanthropist and a source of livelihood for some person that solemnly depends on me to survive.
