Fresh Political Storm in Ogun as Abiodun’s Gov’t Targets Gbenga Daniel’s Properties with Demolition Threats

Ogun State’s political scene has been thrust into fresh controversy after Governor Dapo Abiodun’s administration served quit and demolition notices on key properties belonging to former governor and current senator, Otunba Gbenga Daniel.
The notices, delivered on Thursday, August 8, 2025, affect three prominent assets — Asoludero Court in Sagamu, Conference Hotels Limited Sagamu, and its annex. Government officials cited alleged violations of the Ogun State Urban and Regional Planning and Development Law No. 61 of 2022, legislation enacted years after the completion of the buildings.
In a statement, Steve Oliyide, spokesperson for the OGD Media Office, accused the Abiodun administration of using state power for political retribution. He described the action as “a calculated vendetta” and “an affront to due process,” drawing parallels with the disputed demolition of DATKEM Plaza in 2023 — a case still pending in court.

“By issuing contravention and demolition notices at the same time, this government has undermined the rule of law,” Oliyide asserted, warning that such actions threaten property rights and set a dangerous precedent for governance in Nigeria.
The statement called on the Nigerian Bar Association, civil society organisations, and human rights groups to challenge what it termed “a clear abuse of office.”
Senator Daniel’s legal team has begun preparations for a full legal response, vowing to hold the state government accountable for what they describe as an “assault on justice and decency.”
