A truck in Ogun State has claimed the lives of a man, his wife and their baby while travelling on a motorcycle.

The accident happened Wednesday at Ijebu-Ode, along the Ibadan-Ijebu-Ode highway, around 9:05pm.

The Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement (TRACE) Corps, said the driver of the truck had lost control of the vehicle due to excessive speeding, thereby crushing the family.

TRACE spokesman, Mr Babatunde Akinbiyi, posited that the truck driver failed to stop after killing the victims.

However, some commercial motorcyclists who saw the incident went after the vehicle and caught up with the driver in front of a hotel, along Oru-Ago Iwoye Road.

The truck driver was said to have been beaten by the angry mob before he was later handed over to the police at Igbeba Police Motor Traffic Division.

The trunk of the truck was also set on fire by the okada riders and some youths.

Akinbiyi added that the bodies of the victims were deposited at the General Hospital in Ijebu-Ode.

The traffic agency has, therefore, warned drivers of articulated vehicles to put an end to speed violations to avoid casualties on the roads.
