An articulated truck carrying a 20ft container fell on a commercial bus near Ojuelegba Bridge, Lagos, on Sunday, killing eight occupants.

Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, permanent secretary of Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, said the truck lost control while driving onto the bridge.

“On arrival on site, it turned out that a truck with a 20ft container had landed on a commercial bus.

“Investigations showed that the bus was picking up passengers when the truck lost control and fell over the side of the bridge.

“In total, eight fatalities were recovered, including four adult men, two adult women, a girl and a boy.

“After the container load was suspended using the LASEMA forklift, an adult woman was rescued and taken to the trauma center,” he said.

Oke-Osanyintolu said LASEMA heavy ambulance and the Lagos State Fire Service were on hand for the rescue operation, just as LASTMA and police were on site to direct traffic.
