Ex-Gov Yahaya Bello May Face Court Today Over Alleged N190.2 Billion Fraud

Former Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, is set to be arraigned today by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over allegations of mismanaging funds amounting to ₦190.2 billion.

Bello voluntarily appeared at the EFCC headquarters in Abuja on Tuesday, accompanied by his legal team, but was promptly detained by the agency’s Chief Security Officer and handed over to the Special Duty Unit (SDU), a task force known for handling high-profile cases.

According to EFCC insiders, Bello’s trial will focus on an ₦80.2 billion fraud allegation, while investigations into a separate ₦110 billion fraud case are ongoing.

“This case is of significant public interest, which is why it has been assigned to our crack team of detectives,” an official disclosed.

The EFCC confirmed that all legal processes have been finalized, with charges filed in both the Federal High Court in Maitama and the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory.

Meanwhile, Bello’s representatives dismissed claims of an arrest, stating, “He voluntarily reported to the EFCC. There was no arrest as alleged.”

As Nigerians await court proceedings, this development marks a significant moment in the anti-graft agency’s efforts to address financial misconduct at the highest levels of government.
