The Sagamu Youth Association (SYA) paid a familiarization visit to the management of Emzor Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd, one of the leading pharmaceutical companies operating within the Sagamu axis. The meeting, held at the company’s facility, aimed to open fresh conversations around employment, empowerment, and the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) commitments.

The SYA delegation, led by its executives, engaged the company’s management team on key developmental issues affecting the host community, with a primary focus on youth inclusion in employment opportunities, human capacity development initiatives, and the need for sustainable empowerment programs. The visit, described as timely and impactful, marks a significant step toward ensuring inclusive growth for Sagamu youths.

During the dialogue, the youth executives emphasized the necessity for companies operating in Sagamu to actively support local development beyond basic operations. In response, Emzor’s management team acknowledged the association’s proactive stance and assured the delegation of its willingness to improve engagement and responsiveness to the community’s aspirations. “Over 70% of our current workforce are from Sagamu, and we are open to expanding that number,” one of the Emzor executives stated.

A central issue discussed during the meeting was the revalidation of the company’s Community Liaison Officer (CLO). The association requested that Emzor reexamine the representation structure to ensure that the CLO’s office remains accountable, transparent, and aligned with the community’s current realities. The management recognized this demand as a valid concern and promised to take the necessary steps to address it promptly.

On the matter of CSR, Emzor Pharmaceuticals outlined some of its past contributions to the community. Among the initiatives mentioned were the installation of a transformer in Iwelepe, medical outreaches at the Akarigbo Palace, Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital (OOUTH) in Ikenne, and various churches in Sagamu. Additionally, the company took pride in its role in constructing the dual-tunnel road connecting Iwelepe to the tollgate, a project that has significantly improved road accessibility in the area.

While acknowledging these contributions, the Sagamu Youth Association stressed that the community’s growing population demands more deliberate and scalable interventions. They urged Emzor to explore more robust empowerment schemes, skills acquisition programs, and internship opportunities for youths, particularly recent graduates and vocational trainees seeking career advancement.

In a reassuring tone, the management of Emzor Pharmaceuticals expressed appreciation for the youth leaders’ maturity and constructive approach. The company further affirmed its readiness to roll out new initiatives aimed at community development, with a specific focus on youth employment, entrepreneurship support, and partnership in local development programs.

The SYA executives, in turn, commended Emzor for its openness and commitment to future collaboration. They expressed optimism that the familiarization visit would mark the beginning of a renewed and fruitful relationship between the company and the Sagamu community. “This meeting is a bold step forward in creating synergy between corporate operations and community interests,” an SYA representative remarked.

As Sagamu continues to grow as a commercial hub in Ogun State, this kind of proactive engagement between youth organizations and key industries sets a precedent for how communities can drive accountability, inclusive growth, and sustainable partnerships. The Sagamu Youth Association reaffirmed its commitment to advocating for the welfare of its people while maintaining open lines of communication with stakeholders across various sectors.
