EFCC Places Yahaya Bello On INTERPOL Watchlist
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has taken a significant step in its pursuit of former Kogi State governor, Yahaya Bello, by requesting that INTERPOL add him to their watchlist in multiple countries.
According to sources within the EFCC, the commission has asked INTERPOL to place Bello on their watchlist in North African countries including Morocco, Tunisia, Algeria, as well as Egypt, Libya, and Sudan.
This move comes ahead of Bello’s expected appearance in a Federal High Court in Abuja on July 17th, where he faces a 19-count charge of money laundering, breach of trust, and embezzlement of public funds totaling approximately N80.2 billion.

The EFCC’s executive chairman, Mr. Ola Olukoyede, recently met with INTERPOL heads in North Africa to share intelligence on Bello’s case and request their assistance in apprehending him. The watchlist request has been accepted, and Bello will be arrested if he attempts to enter any of the listed countries.
“The watch-list has taken immediate effect. He will be arrested in any part of North Africa.”
“We took this step because we are suspecting that he had been bidding time not to be available for arraignment.”
“We expect Bello to be in court to prove his innocence. EFCC has to do its work to avoid bad precedent.”
The EFCC’s actions has shown their determination to ensure Bello faces justice and does not flee the country to avoid prosecution. Bello has previously denied the allegations against him but has failed to appear in court as required.
