A member of the South-East security outfit, Ebubeagu, Ajasm Aja, has been shot dead in Ebonyi state.

He was reportedly killed by his colleague over N1,000, a claim denied by the outfit’s commander, Mr Friday Nnana-Ujor.

Our correspondent understood that the late Aja and his assailant were part of the Ebubeagu team called to the Isu community, in the state’s Onicha Local Government Area to provide security during Saturday’s All Progressives Congress governorship meeting.

After the meeting, it was learned that the team had been instructed to bring the party’s flag and secure it in subsequent meetings.

However, an altercation is said to have taken place between the deceased and his colleague of over N1,000, which each of them would get for their role in the event.

A community source said: “At the end of the event, the Ebubeagu members and G-24 group members loyal to the Onicha LGA chairman were asked to take back the flag of the party in readiness for the events from other days.

“During this process, one of the Ebubeagu members and a leader in the G-24 group, Ajasm Aja, who was recently sworn in as a supervisory councilor for health in the Onicha council area, got involved in a strong altercation with a co-member .

“While the duo were having a war of words, Mr. Aja drew his pump shotgun and tried to shoot his colleague. In a quick reaction, the colleague sprang into action, pulled out a pistol and shot him in the forehead. He immediately fell flat and died on the spot.”

However, Ebubeagu commander in Ebonyi state, Nnana-Ujor, said on Monday that the attacker was not a member of the security gear.

He said, ‘No, it wasn’t an Ebubeagu person who shot him. That thing was staged; it was the people who parked behind a Sienna bus that killed him. The person who did that was sent to do that. People think it was an Ebubeagu officer who killed the person, but that’s not true.

“It’s because the gun they used to kill the person was a pump action. No Ebubeagu person goes to a rally area with guns. We had a meeting and made that decision. We are currently investigating the matter.”
