An Ebubeagu agent, Ajasm Aja, has been shot dead by his colleague over N1000, Ebonyi state.

It was believed that the late Aja and his assailant were part of the Ebubeagu team called to the Isu community, in the Onicha Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, to provide security during the All Progressives Congress governorship rally in the area , on Saturday.

After the meeting, it was learned that the team had been instructed to bring the party’s flags and secure them for subsequent meetings, when an altercation ensued between the deceased and his trigger-happy colleague of over N1,000.

It was learned that Aja rushed for his pump-action shotgun, but his opponent quickly drew his pistol and shot him in the head, leading to his death on the spot.

A community source, pleading for anonymity, said, “Today, Saturday, January 28, 2023, the APC had their meeting at Isu, the municipal headquarters of Onicha LGA.

“At the end of the event, Ebubeagu members and the G-24 group were asked to retrieve the party’s flag ready for other events.

“During this process, one of the Ebubeagu members and a leader in the G-24 group, popularly known as Ajasm Aja, who was recently sworn in as a supervisory councilor for health in the Onicha council area, was swamped with strong arguments with a fellow member.

“As the duo engaged in a war of words, Mr. Aja drew his pump action rifle and attempted to fire at the other colleague. As a quick response, the colleague sprang into action more quickly, pulled out a gun and shot him in the forehead.

“He immediately fell flat and died on the spot.”

When contacted on Monday, Ebubeagu commander in Ebonyi state, Mr. Friday Nnana-Ujor, said the attacker was not an agent of the South-East Security outfit, revealing that the aide was a suspected gunman, who also wielded a pump-action pistol just like his own men.

He said no. It wasn’t an Ebubeagu person who shot him.

“That thing was staged; it was the people who packed themselves behind a Sienna bus that killed him. The person who did that was sent to do that. People think that Ebubeagu’s staff killed the person, but that’s not true.

“It’s because the gun they used to kill the person was a pump action. Not a single Ebubeagu person goes to the rally grounds with guns. We had a meeting and made that decision. We are currently investigating the matter and very soon we will arrest the perpetrator and call journalists to hear from him. I don’t want people to think it’s political. Just exercise some patience.”
