The candidate for governor of Ebonyi State of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, Prof. Benard Odoh, escaped death on Thursday night when his convoy was attacked by gunmen suspected of being assassins, in the state’s Ishielu Local Government Area.

A reliable source, pleading for anonymity, said Odoh was returning from the Agba community in Ishielu, where he had gone for a consultation when his convoy was ambushed near the Rest House area along the Abakaliki/Enugu Expressway.

It was believed that the attackers, who parked an unmarked Sienna bus at the roadside, opened fire on the gubernatorial candidate’s convoy and riddled his Toyota SUV with bullets.

His driver was reportedly killed in the attack, while his police soldier and three others suffered gunshot wounds of varying degrees.
