Don’t break your fast with these 5 foods

Many people fast for various reasons. Some of them include health reasons, religion or even for ethical purposes.

In fasting, a person abstains from eating or drinking or both for a period of time.

This is important because during fasting, the digestive system does not work for a while, and going back to your usual diet immediately after fasting is not good for your gut and can lead to certain consequences.

With this in mind, here are the worst foods to consume when breaking your fast;

1. French fries

One food to avoid when breaking your fast is french fries. This is because fried or acidic foods can lead to heartburn shortly after fasting. The acidity can also make stomach problems worse.

2. Alcohol

Alcohol is also a no-go after fasting. This is because the body absorbs the alcohol faster when your stomach is empty and this can lead to alcohol intoxication, especially since the body doesn’t get a chance to break down the alcohol as quickly as it is consumed.

3. Carbonated drinks

Carbonated drinks should also not be the first thing you consume after fasting. This is because it can lead to a bloated stomach and also increase the acidic state of the stomach.

4. Sweets

Another food that you should not use to break your fast is sweets. Ingesting sugar just after fasting is bad because the body cannot produce enough insulin at that time to maintain normal blood levels. This in turn can lead to serious consequences such as eye diseases or disturbance of the acid-base balance.

5. Fruit juice

It is also not recommended to use fruit juice to break your fast. This can lead to problems such as constipation, acidity and stomach pain.
