As Nigeria marks Democracy Day, the Executive Chairman of Sagamu Local Government, Ogbeni Jubril Odulate, has called for a deeper commitment to democratic values, urging leaders across all levels to uphold the voice and welfare of the people.

In a heartfelt Democracy Day message released on Wednesday, Ogbeni Odulate emphasized that for Nigerians, democracy is not just a political structure but a legacy earned through sacrifice and resilience.

“Today is not just a date on the calendar—it is a powerful reminder of the journey of a people who refused to be silenced,” the Chairman said.

He described democracy as “a hard-earned voice that speaks through our streets, our homes, and every ballot box,” adding that the duty of leadership is to honour that voice with sincerity, presence, and purpose.

“Here in Sagamu, every decision we take must mirror the will and welfare of our people. That is the true essence of democracy,” he declared.

Ogbeni Odulate also took a moment to commend the active role of citizens in sustaining the democratic journey, especially the youths, voters, and community leaders whose participation continues to strengthen Nigeria’s democratic foundation.

“Let us keep moving forward together and for one another, so that the labours of our heroes past shall never be in vain,” he concluded.
