In a bid to strengthen security in Ogun State, the Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Ogunlowo, PhD, paid a familiarization visit to the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Secretariat in Abeokuta on January 30, 2025. The visit, held at the iconic Iwe Iroyin Press Centre in Oke Ilewo, aimed to foster a stronger partnership between the police and the media to enhance public safety.

The Commissioner, who has recorded significant security breakthroughs since assuming office, was warmly received by Ogun NUJ Chairman, Comrade Akinwale Olarenwaju, alongside his deputy and other veteran journalists, both serving and retired.

During an interactive session, CP Ogunlowo engaged journalists on pressing security issues affecting Ogun State, reaffirming the police’s commitment to tackling crime head-on.

One of the major concerns raised was the unresolved murder of Mr. Oyekanmi Taiwo, the Director of Finance in the Accounts Department, who was shot dead by unknown gunmen on November 29, 2023, while in possession of an undisclosed sum of money.

CP Ogunlowo assured journalists that investigations into the brutal killing remain active. Despite not being in office at the time of the incident, he emphasized that no case is ever abandoned under his leadership. He pledged that the police would exhaust all available evidence to bring the perpetrators to justice.

Concerns over recurring farmer-herder conflicts were also discussed. The CP revealed that the police have revived stakeholder meetings across all divisions in the state, bringing together local leaders, farmers, and herders to foster peaceful coexistence through dialogue. He expressed confidence that sustained engagement would significantly reduce violent clashes.
