Christians and Muslims in South Kaduna sign peace pact

The Southern Kaduna Christian Leaders Association says it has signed a pact with the Council of Imams and Ulama to promote peace in the region ahead of the 2023 general election.

According to a statement signed Monday by the chairman, South Kaduna Christian leaders Apostle Emmanuel Kure and Chief Imam Dr. Muhammad Kassim, the pact has been agreed to encourage Muslims and Christians in the region to shun violence, the embrace dialogue and remain committed to the Pact before, during and after the 2023 general elections.

The two organizations explained that the religious leaders signed the Memorandum of Understanding as a sign of their commitment to supporting peaceful coexistence for the advancement of the area.

“Stakeholders from both Christians and Muslims are committed to promoting peaceful coexistence between communities in South Kaduna, Kaduna State and Nigeria.

“The two religious groups and their members have collectively and individually agreed to ensure that the 2023 general election is non-violent, noting that even if a crisis erupts in other places, they will jointly ensure that the region and does not consume their members. are not involved.

“This Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) therefore articulates the participants’ shared objectives in support of a crisis-free 2023 general election in South Kaduna, and their respective commitments.

“Anyone who tries to help outsiders create or start a crisis, we will collectively release our members to protect the country from both external and internal problems before, during and after the 2023 general election,” the group said. .

Adding: “The MOU also needed to lay a foundation for continued dialogue and cooperation between the participants, so that future interventions and areas of mutual interest can be brought under this framework.”
