On Friday, the president, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd), offered condolences to family, friends and associates who mourned the death of former Police Inspector General Mustapha Balogun.

He also grieved with the Nigerian police, an institution he said Balogun served for most of his life.

Buhari’s message of condolence is in a statement signed by his special adviser for media and publicity, Femi Adesina, entitled ‘President Buhari Mourns Former IGP, Tafa Balogun’.

Adesina said: “The president recalls that Tafa Balogun, during his tenure as IGP, did his utmost to ensure that the police carried out their legal responsibilities under a democratic dispensation; and his penchant for boosting the morale of officers and men in the Force has been recognized by those who served under him.

“President Buhari’s thoughts are with the family, government and people of Osun state, as well as the colleagues and former colleagues of the late police chief.”

He therefore prayed for the peaceful rest of the souls of the deceased.
