Awujale Visits President Tinubu In New Year’s Courtesy Call
Awujale and Paramount Ruler of Ijebu Land, Alayeluwa Oba Dr. Sikiru Kayode Adetona, GCON, paid a New Year visit to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at his Ikoyi residence in Lagos earlier today.
The visit, which was described as private, followed a string of cordial engagements between the revered monarch and the President.
According to a statement issued by the Aafin Awujale and signed by the Onigegewura Akile Ijebu, Aremo Tunde Oladunjoye, the Awujale expressed profound gratitude to President Tinubu and the Federal Government for conferring upon him the prestigious Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger (GCON) on May 10, 2024.

The honorary award was presented as part of the monarch’s 90th birthday celebrations, coinciding with his 64th anniversary on the throne as Nigeria’s longest-reigning first-class traditional ruler. During the event, President Tinubu, represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, praised the monarch’s exemplary leadership and contributions to national unity.
Notably, today’s meeting adds another chapter to their close relationship, which began with President Tinubu’s nationwide consultations ahead of his presidential campaign.
True to his word, the President had earlier visited the monarch at Aafin Awujale in Ijebu Ode to express gratitude for his support during his journey to the presidency.
The New Year’s meeting was held behind closed doors, underscoring the special bond between the nation’s leader and the iconic Ijebu monarch.
