The Arewa Women for Empowerment has urged Nigerians to show love to one another as exemplified by the birth of Jesus Christ.

The group stated this in a goodwill message to mark this year’s Christmas, an occasion mark on December 25 every year to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ.

In a statement issued on Thursday by the Chairperson of the organisation, Aishat Ibrahim-Ali, the body called attention to the virtue of love, empathy and tolerance, traits exhibited by the Lord Jesus Christ throughout his sojourn on earth.

The statement read in part, “We felicitate with Nigerians on the occasion of this year’s Christmas celebration. As we celebrate the birth of Jesus, we hope that Nigerians irrespective of tribe and faith will show love towards one another, live peacefully among themselves and show patriotism in the face of adversity.

“It is an occasion for sober reflection but more than anything else, we must demonstrate oneness, forgiveness and empathy as Jesus taught mankind while he was on earth in bodily form.

“As we celebrate, we call on well-meaning Nigerians to lift the less privileged members of the society and give them a reason to believe in the beauty of existence. We also called on all and sundry to pray for our leaders in their quest to make Nigeria great again.”

The group also commended Alhaji Aliko Dangote, President of the Dangote Group for bringing down the cost of petrol to N889 per litre.

“It is on record that the removal of subsidy has made life very difficult for the common man. Things got so bad that we almost bought a litre of fuel for N2000. So, we are happy that Africa’s richest man, Dr Aliko Dangote has deemed it fit to bring the price down to N889 per litre. While we congratulate him for this feat, we know that the price can still be reduced given the economic realities of the time.”

“Nigerian women are proud of this great patriot who has shown uncommon belief in the Nigerian project. The coming on board of the Dangote Refinery and Petrochemical Limited has in no way changed the narrative of the possibility of our collective dream and aspiration.”

“It is not for nothing that the as a private citizen, he bagged the second highest national honour in the land, the Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger (GCON). We look forward to more of his interventions because even at N889 per litre, things remain difficult for millions of Nigerians household,” she said.
