Angry residents shun Buhari’s visit to Kano

The people of Kano tactically declined on Monday to give a rousing welcome to President Muhammadu Buhari’s visit on his eight-project assignment in the ancient city of Kano.

Usually every time the president visits the state, large crowds pour out to give him a rousing welcome, but this time things changed completely as residents shunned his visit.

It will be remembered that President Buhari, who enjoyed a red carpet reception whenever he visited the state, tactically avoided the roads after arriving in Kano and flew by helicopter from the airport directly to the Dala Inland Dry Port project site and to the Emir’s Palace.

Unconfirmed sources hinted that in the Hototo neighborhoods, an allegedly angry resident had barricaded the road to one of the project sites in the area with stones and interlock blocks, attacking some of the vehicles in the convoy.

However, the situation was later brought under control after police fired tear gas to disperse the crowd that was already burning tires.

Another source also reported that the president had left the scene of the incident when some of the convoys following him were reportedly attacked with stones.

At the time of completing this report, no confirmation of police arrest of suspects.

However, some sources stated that the ugly incident could not be related to what the majority of people described as unprecedented hardships forced upon the people by the Buhari government, especially the recently redesigned naira notes and the initial deadline of 31 January issued by the CBN.
