A sex worker, identified simply as Chisom, has been found dead in her room at a hotel in Onitsha, Anambra state.

PUNCH subway gathered that the deceased was found dead on Monday while cleaners swept her room.

The incident caused confusion in the neighborhood as residents gathered to discuss the incident.

While some suspected she had been murdered, others believed the deceased committed suicide.

A source, who saw the corpse before it was removed at around 2:10 p.m., argued that the placement of the body suggested that Chisom had been strangled.

Another source and a colleague of the deceased said she may have been strangled by an early caller.

She noted that last week the sex worker had a disagreement with a client who allegedly paid her, but she refused to allow him access because the latter threatened to do business with her.

A 70-year-old woman who lives near the hotel, identified as Mama Chizoba, revealed that sex workers collected between N5,000 and N7,000 depending on client class.

She wondered why the owners of the hotel allowed other sex workers to take their personal belongings and flee the facility when the case had not been fully investigated.

She dismissed claims that the deceased had hanged herself and said all the call girls at the hotel had questions to answer.

She said: “It is painful that this kind of death will happen in a disreputable hotel like this and the owners will allow the prostitutes who live there to leave the hotel in broad daylight as the corpse of their colleague they claimed to have themselves hanged has not been found removed and examined Why do they run How can someone who hanged himself stand with her feet on the ground?

Police from the Central Police Station, Onitsha, who visited the crime scene around 12:30 p.m., left with some officials from the hotel, who later returned.

An ambulance from the General Hospital, Onitsha, arrived soon after and took the body away.

The Divisional Police Officer, Central Police Station, Onitsha, Ifeanyi Ibru, said the investigation into the matter had begun.

“The police are aware and we are investigating the matter; the corpse has been taken away,” Ibru added.
