The Anambra State House of Assembly has extended the terms of office of the chairs of the Transition Committee and members of the state’s twenty-one Local Government Areas for an additional three months.

The Nigerian Tribune concluded that the House extended their term in accordance with Section Two Hundred and Eight of the Local Government Act, as demanded by Governor Chukwuma Soludo during the plenary session on Thursday.

The Speaker of the House, The Right Honorable Uche Okafor read their affirmation, with the House voting in support.

Hon. Okafor instructed the Chairs of the Local Government Transition Committee to make their people aware of the need to collect their permanent voter cards from the INEC office at the twenty-one local government headquarters in the state so that they can vote at the upcoming 2023 general election

The speaker also instructed them to do their best to draw the benefits of democracy to their people to alleviate their suffering.

In an expression of thanks, the Chairman of the Transition Committee, Ayamelum Local Government Area, Chief Livinus Onyenwe assured that they will meet expectations, while the Chairman of the Transition Committee for Orumba South Local Government Area, Prince Neville Uchendu, commended the House for confirming him for another term and Governor Chukwuma Soludo for the construction of the Ufuma-Awa-Ndiukwuenu Amansea road, adding that the council had experienced unprecedented development during the period when he ran local government affairs as chairman.

The deputy chairman, Dr. Paschal Agbodike, supported the motion for adjournment and called on the federal government to obey the Court of Appeal’s ruling by releasing Mr. Nnamdi Kanu to quell the unrest in the Southeast.

Dr. Agbodike also urged the National Assembly members of the Southeast Extraction to use their positions to secure the release of Mr. Kanu and address insecurity in Anambra State and all parts of the Southeast to make the areas safe, as most of the people of the southeast have left the area because of insecurity.
