The newly ‘kangaroo’ elected national financial secretary and former state chairman of Labour party in Lagos state, Dayo Ekong has publicly told his master, Julius Abure to grant her freedom to lead Lagos.

This was communicated in her statement as reported by a member of the Lagos state working committee (who wishes to be anonymous at the moment) after questioning the appointment of a new Lagos state woman leader without the approval of the National chairman Barrister Julius Abure.

Dayo Ekong in her response made the following remarks;

“The national chairman’s tenure has ended since 10th of June and he has no locus standing to decide for anybody since the convention he organised was not accepted by INEC. It is therefore imperative that every state chairman hold on to their structures tightly as we look forward to congresses and convention.”

“The appointment of a new woman leader is necessary as i would not allow anyone who is not loyal to me to remain within the structure of the party as loyalty is key in politics and it must be hundred percent. I am therefore not answerable to anyone for appointing a new woman leader for our dear state.”

“The national chairman is also building a personal relationship with the elected members of the National assembly from Lagos state, thereby allowing them to diminish the office of the state chairman of the party in Lagos and i will ensure that i deal squarely with all of them as our structure will await them come 2026/2027 election year.”

“Most of them are not doing anything for their constituents and their constituents are complaining bitterly to the state working committee. Some of them are even creating factions within the party through the influence of the national chairman. We can not keep quiet any longer as the time to get it right is now or never.”

Pastor Dayo Ekong also complained that; ‘the leadership style of the national chairman barrister Julius Abure is the reason for the problems of the party most especially in Lagos state as he is currently associating himself with those against Labour Party structures in Lagos state.”
