Akinlade’s Exit Confirms Allegiance With APC — Ogun PDP Fires Back, Says “We Lost Nothing

The Ogun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has reacted strongly to the resignation of its former Deputy Governorship candidate, Hon. Abdulkabir Akinlade, dismissing his exit as inconsequential and overdue.

In a statement signed by the State Publicity Secretary, Otunba Arc. Kayode Adebayo, the PDP described Akinlade’s departure as a final seal on his long-suspected allegiance to the All Progressives Congress (APC), asserting that his exit “changes nothing” within the party’s structure or strategy.

“Akinlade has never truly aligned with our vision. His lack of commitment was evident throughout the 2023 campaign period — from pre-election activities to the polls and beyond,” the party stated. “Even in his own local government, Ipokia, his absence was loud, and the outcome of the election exposed his political emptiness.”

The PDP alleged that Akinlade had been covertly working against the party’s interest for months, labeling him “a political mercenary” whose involvement caused more friction than unity. According to the party, internal assessments after the last governorship election identified him as “a liability” with little influence in his constituency or senatorial district.

Refuting claims that Akinlade was sidelined, the PDP said his narrative of marginalization was a smokescreen to mask his betrayal. “His talk of structural exclusion is nothing more than the last cry of a man caught red-handed,” the statement read.

The party assured its members and supporters across all 236 wards in Ogun State to remain focused and united, insisting that the party is on a path of rebirth that excludes “treacherous actors.”

“His resignation only formalizes what has been clear for months. We are focused on repositioning the PDP and building strategic alliances with the good people of Ogun who are yearning for competent leadership, not political drama,” the statement concluded.

The PDP also hinted at more possible defections, encouraging discontented individuals to “make haste” in their exit, as the party forges ahead with a renewed vision to reclaim its position as the dominant force in Ogun politics.
