The Chairman of the Allied Peoples Movement , Ogun State Chapter, Patrick Oyatayo has described the defection of the party’s candidate in the last election, Abdulkabir Akinlade as surprising.

Oyatayo said the defection of Akinlade and some members of the party to All Progressives Congress (APC) came to him as a surprise.

The party chairman said this on Tuesday at a press conference held at party secretariat in Abeokuta.

Oyatayo who described Akinlade as being arrogant to the party also announced that the party had expelled Akinlade and eight other members of the party who defected to APC.

“On Akinlade, I cannot say much because what he has done to us is highly surprising , we did not expect him to do what he did.

“He came to me at the initial stage that he wanted to contest as governorship candidate under our party. This is where he and his people called us to get the party from us and we obliged that we should allow him to come in.

“We told them that if he will be contesting under this party he must follow our rules and regulations which they agreed.

“Through the campaigns , I had to go around with them for campaigns. We had sent them letters twice but they did not reply to the two letters”.

The party chairman insisted that Akinlade and other members who defected did not inform the party.

Oyetayo said, the defectors including Akinlade decided to defect because executive members of the party challenged them of not complying to the rules of the party.

He claimed that the defectors after they announced defection still attend the party’s meeting.

“They have been served three notices on their arrogance and political allegiance but they all failed to reply and comply. On their failed compliances with the party hierarchy. The executives of our great part has passed vote of No Confidence on them and therein, expelled them from our great party.

“The letter was sent to them before they announced the defection, we have copies of the letter with us. We sacked them before they defected. They only used the defection to cover the fact that they were sacked.

“We do have meetings every two weeks. When they said they defected, they did not write us, so we did not believe that they defected. We used to send them invitations.

When asked about Akinlade’s performance in the last election, the party chairman said, Akinlade contested under the party for governorship candidate without paying a dime to the party.

“They did not give us any money” he said.
