Actress Rahama Sadau urges governments to fund Nollywood
A film producer and actress, Rahama Sadau, has urged the Nigerian government to fund the film industry, adding that lack of funds affects the production of quality films in Nollywood.
Speaking in Abuja at the premiere of a film, ‘The Plan’, she said, ‘The government should investigate the creative industries so that we can be a bigger industry.
“Lack of funding has been a major setback for the entire industry. We have many talents. We have many creatives, but we have little or no money.
“We have almost 90% of the filmmakers putting in their money to produce movies. So I will always advocate government intervention. We’ve seen Avatar, Wakanda and others. It’s not just one person who made the movie, there are many producers.
The film ‘The Plan’, which depicts the culture of the northern people of Nigeria, will premiere on Netflix on Friday, February 3, 2023.
The film, which premiered in Abuja on Saturday night, with a plot based on trust and loyalty, would be the first Northern Nigeria-focused film on Netflix, with a majority of the cast and executive producers from the northern part of the country.
Directed by Dimbo Atiya, and produced by Rahama Sadau and Safina Mohamed, the series features a number of film industry stars including Ali Nuhu, Mofe Duncan, Rosaline Churchill and Yakubu Mohammed.
Sadau and Nuhu speaking to journalists also noted that the film was expected to attract and bring more Hausa-speaking people across the African continent, and Nigerians from the northern region to Netflix.
