The Federal High Court siting in Abuja on Tuesday, 22nd June, 2021 ruled on the leadership tussle for the authentic Executive Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party in OGUN State and Hon. Sikirulai Ogundele was favoured by the ruling as the authentic State Chairman of the Party.
The judgement delivered by Honourable Justice M. O. Olajuwon recognized and upheld the terms of settlement brokered by the Dr. Bukola Saraki led National Reconciliation and Strategy Committee of the Party and attested to on the 18th of March, 2021 by the leaders and representatives of both contending factions known as the Ladi Adebutu and Buruji Kashamu factions.
The terms of settlement agreed by both parties which the court relied on for the Tuesday judgment clearly pronounced Hon. Sikirulai Ogundele as the authentic Chairman of the Party and stated that other positions in the state Executive Committee should be harmonized and be constituted by both factions to form one authentic Executive Committee under the Chairmanship of Hon. Sikirulai Ogundele.
It will be recalled that the battle for the leadership of the PDP in Ogun State between the two factions has been on for over six years with hundreds of various litigations over the battle.
Reacting to the judgment, the Media Consultant to Hon. Oladipupo Adebutu, Afolabi Orekoya said this judgement is restoring the belief in the judiciary in our democratic process, it is a victory for the entire PDP members of Ogun State as there is no looser. The oneness of PDP in Ogun is strengthened and stronger by the judgement.
Orekoya said further that this judgement has put to end all concerns and uncertainties as regards the leadership of the party in Ogun State. “By extension I congratulate the good people of OGUN State as this judgement has also provided an alternative platform for good governance and a better party to be voted for particularly in the forth coming Local Government elections”.
