A pregnant woman loses her life due to lack of new naira notes
A heavily pregnant woman in Kasuwan Magani, Kajuru LGA, Kaduna lost her life due to the scarcity of new naira banknotes when her husband was unable to pay the required hospital deposit as he could not access cash at the bank’s counter.
James Auta, the husband of the deceased, said his wife was rejected by the hospital when he was unable to make the payment due to the scarcity of naira notes.
He said: “I ran to my bank to withdraw money but was told there was no money. I went back looking for POS operators, but I couldn’t find any because since the new currency wassuance started, most of the POS operators locked their business centers.”

However, as he was unable to withdraw the money, they both decided to go home, trusting God for a safe delivery.
Unfortunately, their situation worsened, eventually leading to her death.
James recalled, “My wife went into labor around 11 p.m. Unable to withdraw money, I called the attention of a nurse in our neighborhood. But when my wife gave birth, blood came out non-stop. All the nurse’s attempts to stop the bleeding failed.”
