Some landlords and residents have lamented pollution caused by improper waste disposal beside the road around Denro dam, Denro Ishasi, in the Akute area of Ogun State.

Eaglesforesight gathered that during the rainy season, the smell emanating from the waste deposited on the road had been causing pollution in the surrounding environment where houses, shops, among others are located.

During a visit to the community, our correspondent gathered that the waste deposited on the road had been affecting movements of motorists and pedestrians plying the route to navigate their destinations within and beyond the community.

A point of sale operator, Ben Ugba, appealed to the ministry of environment in the state to install a waste disposal container to curb the pollution in the community.

Ugba said, “The Ogun State Government should call on the waste disposal management board to come over to install containers to dispose of refuse because during the rainy season the drainages and the dam are polluted with waste. Waste bins should be installed in each area of our community so that people can dump their waste in the bin.”

A fashion designer, Jimoh Fatima, while lamenting the poor state of the waste disposal system in the community, urged residents to desist from dumping refuse on the road.

Another resident, Zainab Olori, said, “Despite warning people against improper disposal of waste in the community, people still continue to engage in the act. I want Ogun State governor, Mr. Dapo Abiodun to solve the problem for us.”

A resident, Omozele Mohammed, said the government should shoulder the responsibility of proffering solutions to the matter.

“It is a simple process if the government wants to do something about it. It is an unfortunate experience and the government is the only body that has the strength to do what the individuals cannot do. So, a proper disposing system driven by technology can be put in place by the government to ensure proper disposal of waste in the community,” Mohammed said.

Contacted, the personal assistant, Ifo Local Government Area, Richard Adeniyi, said the Chairman of the LGA, Kikelomo Delano, visited the Denro-Ishasi area in response to the distress call made by the Senior Special Assistant to the governor on environment, Farouk Akintunde.

He said, “She marked the refuse dump areas when she visited along with some men who made the area free and motorable for commuters and pedestrians to commute.”
