The National Security Council, chaired by President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday, unveiled measures considered to impede terrorist activity, including a nationwide ban on motorcycles and mining to cut off their sources of funds.

The Federation Attorney General and the Justice Minister, Abubakar Malami, flanked by his colleagues from the Interior and Police respectively, Rauf Aregbesola and Mohammed Dingyadi, informed correspondents at the end of the meeting at the presidential villa, Abuja, and said that it focused on the logistics used by the terrorists.

This logistics, Malami said, includes motorcycles used for movement and mining, giving them the cash to fund their arms supply.

He said the federal government is now looking for ways to curb their actions by blocking the already identified sources.

Malami noted that terrorists have moved from the conventional ways of financing their activities to mining and ransom-taking, necessitating government intervention.

The Interior Minister also confirmed that significant intelligence-gathering efforts had been made before the recent attack on the Kuje prison center, but regretted that there was no will to act on it.

Aregbesola, who said the preliminary investigation into the attack had been submitted to the president, assured that all those who abused their responsibilities at the end of the ongoing investigation would be punished.
