War Against Crime: Ogun police nabs 55 suspected cultists, 9 kidnappers, fraudster, murders, ritualist

The Ogun State Police Command under the Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Bankole in its incessant bid to suppress and curtail the menace of cultism and other vices in the State along with the creation of a Special Squad mandated to fish out members of various violent cult groups wherever they are within the state has within the last two weeks arrested not less than 55 members of various cult groups.

According to the command spokesperson, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, those arrested and linked with several cult clashes across the State which left about 8 people dead are:

Also, on the 24th of April 2022, following a credible intelligence gathered by the DPO Sabo/Ilupeju division that two bike riders who are errand boys to a kidnap syndicate were sighted at Rounder area of Abeokuta, detectives from Sabo division were detailed to go after the duo of Hammed Taiwo and Kehinde Jimoh and they were eventually arrested.

Their arrest, according to Oyeyemi led to the discovery of the syndicate hideout at Abule Oba off Ayetoro road where they always converge after collecting ransom from their victims.

“Having discovered the hideout, the DPO Sabo mobilized his men in collaboration with men of So-Safe corps, local hunters, Amotekun corps as well as OPC men, stormed the place where nine members of the syndicate were apprehended.

The arrested people as detailed by the police are, Hammed Taiwo ‘m’; Kehinde Jimoh ‘m’; Umar Sanda ‘m’; Sanda Aliu ‘m’; Ali Morandu ‘m’, Usman Abubakar ‘m’, Usman Mohammed ‘m’, Umaru Ahmad ‘m’ and Umaru Momodu.

Some of the suspects’ victims have identified them as their abductors.

Similarly, on the 17th of April 2022, one Benjamin Ojoloko reported at Imeko divisional headquarters that one Alamu Aperin Adekanbi accosted one Joshua Alao and accused him of dating his girl friend simply identified as Omolaso.

According to the police report, fight thereby ensued between the duo, consequent upon which Alamu Aperin stabbed Joshua on the right side of his chest.

The victim was rushed to the hospital but gave up the ghost while receiving treatment. The suspect was subsequently arrested.

In a related development, on the 26th of April 2022, at about 6:30am, while the men of So-safe corps were on routine patrol at Lantoro area of Abeokuta, a man later identified as Lukman Kushimo a.k.a Werepe was seen coming out from Oke-Yidi Cemetery with a sack in his hand.

He was stopped, and when searched, a head of a little child was discovered inside the sack he carried.

Preliminary investigation, according to the command spokesperson, DSP Oyeyemi revealed that the little child corpse was brought to the Cemetery for burial through the help of the suspect who later came back to severe the head.

The Command also arrested two suspected murderers.

According to report, on the 11th of April 2022, at Ago Ika area of Abeokuta, One Taiwo Toheeb who used to trade in used motorcycle, sold a fairly used bike to one Abdul Azeez at the rate of two hundred thousand naira (₦200,000) and when the buyer paid him, the duo of Mudashiru Sodiq and Taiwo Okewande accosted him and demanded for their own share of the money.

When he refused to give them money, they attacked him and stabbed him in the abdomen with broken bottle.

The victim was rushed to Federal Medical Center, but died while receiving treatment. “The suspects were subsequently arrested”, Oyeyemi said.

Also, on February 2022, following a written petition received by the Commissioner of Police from one Rukayat Ibrahim who reported that she was defrauded of Four Million, Seven Hundred and Seventy Five thousand naira (₦4,775,000) by one Abdul Salami Yakub who pretended to have spiritual solution to her daughter’s problem.

The Commissioner of Police based on the petition directed the monitoring team to go after the suspect who was eventually arrested and confessed been a fraudster.

While the investigation was going on, another victim, one Oluwaseun Ibrahim came up with a complaint that the suspect had earlier duped her of Seven hundred thousand naira, (₦700,000), which the suspect also confirmed.

The suspect, Abdul Salami Yakubu was arrested with the following exhibits, artificial snake, four native eggs in a calabash, masquerade head, Tiger’s tail covered with white cloth, two pots and One bell.

The state Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Bankole appreciated the good citizen of the Gateway State for their crucial timely information rendition.

He said, “together we can make Ogun State a peaceful place to live”.

CP Bankole assures residents of the state that the command will never abdicate its statutory responsibility of fighting crime and criminality in the State.

He also assured all citizen of the State that its operatives are ever ready to rid the State off all criminally minded persons, “as we are going to roll out all in our Arsenal to make the State unconducive for criminals to carry out their nefarious activities.

“Parents/guardians are hereby advised to call their wards to order to avoid had I know situation because anybody or group who attempt to disrupt the peace of the State will be dealt with in the most decisive manner”, he said.
