2023 Presidency: Atiku Missing Out From North’s Consensus Arrangements

Eaglesforesight gathered from a closer source from the North, that Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, a former Vice President and presidential candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has stated that he was never a supporter of the Northern Consensus established by former Military President Gen. Ibrahim Babangida (rtd).

In a statement issued by his chairman, High Chief Raymond Dokpesi, the Technical Committee for the Actualisation of Atiku Abubakar’s Presidency in 2023 said the former vice president did not submit himself to any purported consensus process and thus was not bound by any of the report’s recommendations and conclusions.

“As an outspoken nationalist, Waziri Atiku Abubakar feels Nigeria has never been more divided than it is now. Any “consensus” arrangement based on any regional, zonal, ethno-religious, and/or sectional gang-up, he says, will only deepen and extend this split, worsening the wounds that need to be healed.

“As a result, Vice President Atiku Abubakar is eager to put plans, policies, and programs in place that will help Nigeria recover and rebuild.” “This is his unshakeable and unwavering devotion,” he stated.

The Committee, which stated that it has received several calls and text messages regarding the alleged agreement, asked Atiku’s supporters and other key stakeholders to continue holding dialogues and town hall meetings with delegates around the country ahead of the party primaries.

“We implore them not to be discouraged or sidetracked from our common goal to save our country,” he said.

Prof. Ango Abdullahi (Magajin Rafin Zazzau), a former Vice Chancellor of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, released the report of the IBB Consensus Initiative on Friday, comprising just four presidential hopefuls of Northern extraction within the PDP.
